Developers need to incorporate 3D elements in their 2D games while using the 2D Renderer in Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline (URP).

Why

  • Developers need to render 3D elements in their 2D using standard 2D tools and workflows.
  • Developers want to use 3D elements from the Asset Store in their 2D games.

What

  • 3D renderers that:
    • Can be displayed with depth and sorted like sprites
    • Support 2D lighting
    • Work with sorting layers, sorting orders, and sorting groups for precise layering and order.
    • Interact with sprite masks for masking effects.

Notes:

Only available with the 2D Renderer in Universal RP.
