Made with Unity

For the first time, Google Play Indie Games Fund is coming to Africa, committing $1 million to support independent game developers across the continent. The studios selected for the 2026 cohort will receive not only financial backing, but expert guidance and technical resources, aiming to empower one of the fastest growing and culturally rich game development ecosystems in the world.

Unity has partnered with Google for several years to provide technical expertise and support to the fund recipients, and helped teams in LATAM behind games like My Zombie World, Just King, Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles, Greak: Memories of Azur and many more to bring their creative visions to life.

Nine games selected this year were developed with Unity, and we look forward to working directly with the teams as they take the next steps in their development journeys.

Sub-Saharan Africa’s game-development community draws on a remarkable diversity of cultures, perspectives, and storytelling traditions. The 2026 Indie Games Fund cohort highlights the creativity and talent in the region—and the growing opportunity for African developers to share distinctive games and experiences with audiences worldwide.
