Product Update
Pixyz Plugin Licensing
Since this FAQ was published, Pixyz Plugin was renamed Unity Asset Transformer Toolkit. The information below is only relevant if you own a Pixyz Plugin 2.0 license purchased before September 3, 2024.
As of September 3, 2024, the Pixyz Plugin standalone license will be discontinued. The Pixyz Plugin package will continue to be available exclusively as a part of the Unity Industry subscription, which is already the case. Unity will also be introducing a new Pixyz Plugin package on Unity Package Manager on the same day.
With this change, Unity aims to simplify the onboarding process for Industry customers, particularly concerning seat management with Pixyz Plugin. Henceforth, access to the Pixyz Plugin package will be automatic for all Unity Industry seats. As the first of many steps to enhance the overall user experience for Industry customers, the Pixyz Plugin package will be continuously upgraded to offer more features that unlock further industrial use cases.
The impact of this change on existing customers varies depending on whether or not you are a Unity Industry customer. Please read below to understand how your subscription may be impacted.
Frequently asked questions: Unity Industry subscribers
No, the new package will not be compatible with your current Pixyz Plugin license. Your current license is only compatible with the Pixyz licensing system that has been removed from the new package. As a Unity Industry customer, you will be able to directly install the new Pixyz Plugin package from the Package Manager in order to start using it.
Your current Pixyz Plugin license, which was granted with your Unity Industry subscription, can be used until it expires (check the License Manager or in your Pixyz account for details). After that date, you will need to renew your Unity Industry subscription to keep using its features, including Pixyz Plugin.
Yes, until your current Unity Industry subscription expires:
- The old Pixyz Plugin license will allow you to use older versions of the Pixyz Plugin package (2.0 and older)
- The Unity Industry subscription will allow you to use the new version of the Pixyz Plugin package
However, as each Unity Industry seat comes with only one Unity Editor seat, you will not be able to use them both at the same time. You are free to jump from one to the other, depending on the version of the package required for your projects, and to help transition your projects to the new version of the package. It will not be necessary to uninstall your old Pixyz Plugin license. Unity Industry and the Pixyz Plugin license can exist concurrently.
Frequently asked questions: Pixyz Plugin standalone subscribers
No, the new package will not be compatible with your current Pixyz Plugin license. Your current license is only compatible with the Pixyz licensing system that has been removed from the new package. Using the new package requires a Unity Industry subscription.
Your current Pixyz Plugin license can be used until it expires (check the License Manager or in your Pixyz account for details). As a non-Industry customer, you can purchase a 1-year subscription directly from the Unity Store before the grace period ends on December 31, 2024 . Please note that this license will only be compatible with older versions of the Pixyz Plugin package (2.0 and earlier) and not with the new package.
To continue enjoying Pixyz Plugin once your current license expires, you will need to upgrade to a Unity Industry subscription, along with the new version of the package. Alternatively, you can purchase Pixyz Studio, Unity’s powerful standalone application dedicated to data preparation. This application makes it easy to convert, prepare and optimize 3D and CAD models, whatever their size, complexity or source, so that you can work efficiently with them in Unity. You can also use Unity Cloud to upload your 3D and CAD files to the Asset Manager, where they will be transformed and stored as assets that can then be imported into Unity Editor (see documentation).
Frequently asked questions: All subscribers
The new package will only be usable with a Unity Industry subscription.
While all main features for 3D and CAD import and data preparation remain unchanged, they have been completely revamped and simplified, in order to provide a better user experience.
Here is the list of the main changes to expect:
- The Rule Engine’s user interface and the process for creating rules has been completely revamped. Old rules will no longer be compatible and must be re-written. Please reach out for support here.
- The Toolbox user interface has been completely revamped, offering new data preparation and optimization actions (including “Remove holes” or “Snap model to ground”)
- The way to script custom actions for the Toolbox, leveraging the integrated API, has been completely revamped and simplified.
- The LOD Tool has been completely revamped in order to produce LOD more easily and in agnostic fashion. LOD generation is better suited for all types of 3D models, including Industry and Game models.
Until September 3, 2024, the current version of the package, Pixyz Plugin 2.0, may be updated to fix some bugs, but no new features will be added. After that date, the Pixyz Plugin 2.0 package will not be updated. Unity will keep supporting customers with questions regarding its usage.
The new version of the Pixyz Plugin package will be compatible with Unity Editor 2022.3 LTS and Unity 6.
Pixyz Plugin will no longer require a specific license to run.
However, to be able to install the new package, your Unity Editor license (part of your Unity Industry subscription) needs to be refreshed. The steps to follow depend on how your Unity Editor is licensed:
- If you use the “Named user licensing” model, license activation is automatic and no further action is required.
- If you use the “Serial-based licensing” model, you must start using the "Named User Licensing" model, as this licensing model is not compatible with extra entitlements (including the new Pixyz Plugin package).
- If you use the “Floating licensing” model, you must re-download the server’s license bundle, which contains the extra entitlements (including the new entitlement for the Pixyz Plugin package). Follow the instructions here.
Once your Unity Editor license has been updated, the new package can be installed from the Package Manager. Search for “Pixyz Plugin for Unity” to install.
