ECS for Unity includes many new windows and workflows aimed at making the authoring experience easier for creators when working with entities. The Entity Debugger window has been replaced with several new windows that are now more embedded within the Editor and should feel familiar to classic Unity authoring workflows. A few more features and capabilities have also been added to support streamlined ECS workflows.

  • Hierarchy window: Supports the use of both GameObjects and entities
  • Components window: Users can inspect and search ECS components
  • Systems window: Users can visualize systems, as well as their scheduling order, and interact with them
  • Archetypes window: Users can see a list of all current Archetypes across all Worlds, along with their memory usage, entity, and component counts
  • Interoperability: Users can both visualize relationships between entities, components, systems, queries and explore the data in an endless discovery workflow
  • Scene picking: Users can now pick entities in the scene, the same way you would GameObjects
  • Query window: Users can inspect queries, dock them, and see what they are matching
  • Journaling window: Users can record and explore ECS events directly from the Editor. It enables them to understand data lifecycles and debug their game.
  • Profiler modules: Users can now profile ECS structural changes and memory in the Profiler
