Unity Imports Built-in USD Prims as flattened stage

Universal Scene Description (USD) is an industry standard format for exchanging 3D assets between different applications and pipelines.

For the first milestone, we need to enable import of dense scene data as flattened explicit geometry into the Unity Editor for standard USD assets and schemas. This will enable consistent ingestion of USD assets from DCC and any USD-capable tools as game object into Unity.

Adding USD Import in Unity Editor will provide:

  • Increased collaboration between different tools and pipeline
  • Better performance: USD is optimized for large and complex scenes
  • Increased flexibility: USD provides a more flexible way to store and manage 3d assets
