FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Unity AI

Commonly asked questions related to Unity’s datasets for generative AI tools, Muse Points, and commercial use.

How is Unity approaching responsible AI?

Unity follows these guiding principles, which includes practices to ensure that accessibility for more creators, responsibility, and privacy and security are built into Unity’s AI solutions by design.

Unity Muse

Training, data collection, and intellectual property

How does Unity Muse generate its results?

Unity Muse is based on generative AI where each capability is enabled by different types of AI models.

To create Muse Chat, we licensed third-party large language models (LLMs) and integrated them with first-party Unity technical documentation (including manuals, release notes, tutorials, scripting guides, and so on).

For producing sprites, textures, animations, and AI-enabled behaviors, we custom-built our own model trained entirely on data, images, and animations that Unity owns or has licensed. To learn more about how some of these models were trained, check out our blog post about responsible AI and enhanced model training.

When I use Unity Muse, will my data be used for training?

In order to continue improving our AI capabilities offering and your experience with Muse, we gather users’ Content data. This helps us train better models for your Unity use cases. When you first subscribe to Muse, during the Chat onboarding you’ll be presented with the option to opt out of data sharing. You can also change your data-sharing preferences at any time in the Settings menu.

Can I opt out of sharing data with Unity Muse?

At any point, you can opt out of sharing data with Unity. There are different types of data that you can adjust in your Muse settings. For example, product usage data can be adjusted in your cookie settings, and the “Content data,” which is stored for model improvement and optimization purposes, can be adjusted on your Muse account page.

For more information about the data Unity collects, see our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and read more about Content data below or in our Muse Privacy Policy.

What kind of data is Unity interested in when I opt in to data sharing?

For Unity Muse products that are available to the public, users have the option to opt out of sharing certain data for training models, called “Content data,” at any time.

For pre-release products, usage and Content data is essential for making product improvements and may often be a condition for accessing these products. If users don’t feel comfortable sharing Content data with us for our experimental products, we encourage them to wait until the products are publicly available.

Note that users should never share personal information in prompts or input.

What is “Content data”?

“Content data” is how we describe the input of the user or output of the model. This can include prompts, doodles, or other information used in AI generation. We may ask users to share Content data to improve and evolve future experiences using Muse but users always have the ability to opt in or out of sharing Content data.

Which large language models (LLMs) are you using?

Unity leveraged Azure AI and OpenAI in the development of Chat and the LLM features of Behavior, experimenting with the gold standard in the industry as we build our own flexible and sophisticated systems to be able to toggle to different LLMs in order to provide the best responses for each unique question.

Note that all Content data shared with Unity is safely stored. No Content data is shared for training purposes for Azure AI or OpenAI to use.

What should I do if I think Unity’s AI data set includes my copyrighted content?

In the unlikely case that our model has been trained on your copyrighted content, you can use our online DMCA takedown process to inform us if your content may have been incorporated into our models. Our team will manually review any claims and, upon confirmation of use of your content, we will disable the content in our model.

Generating with Muse Points

While Unity Muse is in early access, paid subscribers will not be subject to Muse Points limits. We will use the early access period to better understand the right model for everyone in the Muse ecosystem.

When Unity Muse moves out of early access in summer 2024, we’ll give everyone advance notice of any changes to Muse Points and generation limits.

What are Muse Points?

Muse Points are generative units that power Unity Muse to produce results. The exact number of points consumed per action depends on the processing power required to fulfill your request.

Muse offers multiple AI services that present different underlying costs to Unity, so we have introduced Muse Points that work across all of Muse’s capabilities, to give users the ability to choose how they would like to allocate usage of AI services.

What can Muse Points be used for?*

*Subject to change following early access

Muse Points can be used to generate content using any capability within Muse (with the exception of pre-releases). Some examples include using points to generate assets in Sprite and Texture, and to retrieve answers and instructions, and build code, using Chat.

Whenever you make a generative action (e.g., submitting a text prompt), Muse Points are automatically consumed. Specifically, the following Muse capabilities consume points as follows:

  • Any chat action: 25 points per generation
  • Any texture action: 8 points per generation
  • Sprite actions, excluding style training (initial generation, variation, inpaint, etc.): 4 points per generation
  • Style Training in Sprite: 200 points per training
  • Any animation action: 16 points
  • Any AI-enabled behavior action: 10 points

If an error message is produced when a user requests a generation, no points will be consumed.

As Muse continues to expand its capabilities and improve outputs, more capabilities and generations may be added.

For Muse capabilities offered as pre-releases, generations using these products will not consume Muse Points.

What can I get with my Muse Points?

Muse Points are applicable across multiple capabilities, letting you allocate points in whatever manner best suits your needs.

Here are some examples of how you can use your points:

  • Up to 120 Chat outputs, including answers, instructions, or generated code
  • Up to 750 Sprite generations, including initial generation, variation, and inpaint
  • Up to 375 Texture generations, including initial generation, variation, and inpaint
  • Any combination of the above that adds up to 3,000 points (e.g., 60 Chat outputs, 200 Sprite generations, and 87 Texture generations)
How many Muse points are included in my subscription?

The Unity Muse subscription includes 3,000 Muse Points that can be used across all Muse capabilities, valid for that month only. Muse Points must be consumed within the month in which they are added to your account and do not carry forward to your next month. You receive a new allotment of 3,000 Muse Points at the beginning of each monthly billing cycle.

During early access, subscribers will not be subject to limits of Muse Points and can enjoy unlimited generations, though we may need to limit your generations in certain cases of overuse. Experiment and give us feedback. We’re using the early access period to better understand the right model for everyone in the Muse ecosystem, especially you.

How do I keep track of my Muse Points balance?

Remaining Muse Points can be viewed in the Unity Muse menu of each Muse tool. It can also be accessed directly by going to your Muse account.

Can Muse Points be shared among users in the same organization?

Yes. Every seat in your organization with a Unity Muse subscription comes with 3,000 Muse Points. The total organization Muse Points can be shared and individuals can spend beyond their individual 3,000 Muse Points allotment. For example: If there are two seats in the organization with a Muse subscription, the organization would collectively have 6,000 Muse Points, allowing individuals in the organization to collectively spend up to 6,000 Muse Points.

What happens if I use all my Muse Points before my subscription cycle?

Muse Points reset each month. While Unity Muse is in early access (ending summer 2024), you can continue to produce generations if you use up the balance of your Muse Points before your cycle ends, but we may need to limit access if any individual’s excess usage during early access would limit the experience for other users.

Following early access, if you exceed your points limits, an additional purchase of Muse Points may be required.

Check back here in summer 2024 to learn when Muse Points limits will apply.

Commercial use and customer support

Can I use Unity Muse generations in commercial projects?

Yes. Generations produced with any capability that’s not marked as a prerelease can be used in commercial projects.

If I’m having technical issues, how can I contact customer support?

If you need additional support with your Unity Muse subscription, please contact Unity Support.
