Real-time 3D in the Renault cockpit: From concept to series

Unity Industry Summit 2026 Renault presentation

For Renault, the user interface is the showcase of embedded technology. Eric Dubot, Experience Design Project Director at Renault, and Jerome Maurey-Delaunay, Staff Solution Architect at Unity, share how Renault and Unity are bringing real-time 3D to its next-generation cockpit, starting from the Emblème concept car as a reference.

Discover what Renault expects from its in-car experience: state-of-the-art visual quality, design continuity from designers to production, and the ability to serve both high-end and low-end hardware across a diverse range of vehicles. Then see how the work played out in practice, from an early project review to results on target hardware.

Watch the full video to learn how:

  • Renault’s user experience (UX) ambitions, the pressure from fast-moving competitors and the move to a software-defined vehicle architecture shape what it expects from its in-car experience.
  • Two short performance sessions with a Unity consultant cut frame time by 90% and graphics processing unit (GPU) usage by 85% on Renault’s Emblème human-machine interface (HMI) project.
  • Unity Asset Manager and Unity Render Service were tested alongside Renault’s familiar toolchain, with Render Service rendering several scenes from a single Unity instance.
  • The demo scenes showed real-time lighting and shadows, dynamic mesh deformation, day and night cycles, and generative backgrounds. Each ran at 180 frames per second (fps) or more on its own, and the full composed view ran at 75 fps.
  • A dedicated Slack channel, weekly syncs, and an onsite workshop in Toulouse brought Unity, Renault and Ampere together in short, efficient loops.
  • A proof of concept ran a Unity 2D instrument cluster at around 170 fps at 1920x720, on a low-cost single-board computer, showing headroom for lightweight, visually rich cluster rendering.

This session was recorded at the Unity Industry Summit in Munich, October 2026.
